Personal Philosophy:
For my students to succeed it is imperative that I promote their interests in reading for pleasure, information, and research. In helping my students to become life-long learners I must listen and actively seek out their input in the selection of materials for the media center. I encourage my students to be vocal about materials that would be beneficial for the media center and for the student body as a whole. This not only, helps me to keep the collection current and relevant, but allows the students to be an active part of the media center through the materials selection process. It is also important for me to be involved in collaboration lessons, and instructional units. This not only helps me to teach research skills in a relevant manner for our students, but also helps me to monitor for the needed updates in the library collection.
Reflective Statement:
The artifact and project links below represent the literary and reading standard of promoting reading for personal growth and development. Aside from inclusion of our students in the media selection process, staying current in the research of materials for the media center, and collaborating with our public librarians regularly to seek out their input, and help in meeting our student’s needs for quarterly research reports. The literature circles research has helped me to provide valuable services for my students. The students that have participated in our literature circles have developed a further appreciation for literature, and have gained benefitial skills, and strategies, for presenting their learning. The action research project link below is a collaborative effort between the librarian at Vista Grande Public / High school Library, here in Casa Grande, Arizona, during my internship for TE 893 Field Experience / capstone Course for the Instructional Technology M.A. program. This project provided Mrs. Andersen, and myself, with valuable information, and learning. It provided Mrs. Andersen with information to help her adjust library services, and materials, for her students which helped her further in meeting their needs.
